You can transfer appointments and meetings from a Windows Live (or Hotmail) calendar to Outlook or Outlook Web App.
-
If you use both Outlook and Outlook Web App, you can export data from your Windows Live calendar, and then export it to Outlook. Because Outlook and Outlook Web App are different ways of connecting to the same account, you'll see all your appointments and meetings no matter how you access the calendar.
-
If you use Outlook Web App only to access your e-mail, you can't import calendar data. However, you can share your Windows Live calendar, and view it in Outlook Web App. Viewing the two calendars side-by-side makes it easier to manually transfer appointments and meetings.
See the instructions for these two options:
Use this approach when you use Outlook and you plan to stop using your Windows Live calendar and switch to using your Windows calendar. There's no connection between the two accounts, so changes in one won't be reflected in the other.
There are two steps to do this:
-
Export the calendar data from Windows Live.
-
Import it into Outlook.
-
Use your Web browser to sign in to your Windows Live account (this may be your Hotmail account) and go to the calendar.
-
In your Windows Live calendar, click Share, select your calendar, and then click Share this calendar.
-
Click Send people a view-only link to your calendar.
-
If you haven’t yet shared this calendar, click Get your calendar links. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
-
Select whether you want event details, click ICS:Import into another calendar application, and then copy the URL that begins webcal://cid. To do this, use Ctrl+A to select the URL, and then use CTRL+C to copy it.
-
Click OK.
-
Paste the URL into your Internet browser. Change webcal to http.
-
In the File Download dialog box, click Save, and save the calendar to a temporary location on your computer.
-
Start the Import and Export wizard by doing the following:
-
In Outlook 2010, click Open on the File menu, and then click Import.
-
In Outlook 2007, click Import and Export on the File menu.
-
In Outlook 2010, click Open on the File menu, and then click Import.
-
In the Import and Export wizard, select Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file (.vcs), and then click Next.
-
Select the ICS file you saved, click Open, and then click OK.
-
All your calendar data is imported into Outlook, and is also available when you use Outlook Web App.
This approach lets you view the two calendars side-by-side. This means you can use Outlook Web App to see data in both calendars. You could continue to use both calendars, or, after you've transferred events to your Outlook Web App calendar, you could delete your shared Windows Live calendar.
-
Use your Web browser to sign in to your Windows Live account (this may be your Hotmail account) and go to the calendar.
-
In the Windows Live calendar, click Share, select your calendar, and then click Share this calendar.
-
Click Send people a view-only link to your calendar.
-
If you haven’t yet shared this calendar, click Get your calendar links. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
-
Select whether you want event details, click ICS:Import into another calendar application, and then copy the URL that begins webcal://cid.” To do this, press Ctrl+A to select the URL, and then press Ctrl+C to copy it.
-
Click OK.
-
In Outlook Web App, click Calendar.
-
Click Share, and then click Add Calendar.
-
In the Add Calendar dialog box, select Calendar from the Internet, press CTRL+V to paste the URL you copied earlier, and then click OK.
Note The calendar will be displayed to the right of the other calendars.
-
To transfer events, create each event in the Outlook Web App calendar. It's not possible to transfer events using a drag-and-drop operation.
-
To remove the shared Windows Live calendar, right-click the shared calendar in the calendar list in Outlook Web App, and then click Delete.
