A custom deployment solution requires custom code or changes to standard procedures to achieve your deployment goals. If you opt for a custom solution, you'll need to contact a Microsoft solutions specialist to help with deployment. Here are a couple of examples of when this might be the case:

You want to automate account creation and synchronization using Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010 or Microsoft Identity Lifecycle Manager 2007 FP1 and the Outlook Live Management Agent (OLMA), and Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) or Active Directory directory service isn't your data source. This scenario requires custom code to work with your directory service.

You want to configure a shared address space and route all e-mail through a third-party anti-spam solution. This scenario requires submission of topology diagrams to make sure that the correct mail relays are added to IP safelists.
