You've chosen to deploy a separate domain for your Outlook Live e-mail accounts. You can purchase a new domain, or create a subdomain of a domain you already own, to segment and identify your user population. Use this option to get up and running quickly.
Review the following deployment scenarios and choose the option that's right for you.
Express Deployment for Live@edu
-
Use the Exchange Control Panel to manually create accounts.
-
Users authenticate to Live@edu using Windows Live ID.
-
This option is the fastest way to deploy. We recommend it when you don't need to integrate with an existing directory service or student information system. For example, consider using it if you are trying Outlook Live with a test domain.
-
Use the Exchange Control Panel and a CSV file to import user information from another data source.
-
Use Windows PowerShell or the Exchange Control Panel to maintain accounts.
-
Users authenticate to Live@edu using Windows Live ID.
-
This option provides manual or scripted directory integration. System requirements are minimal: the Exchange Control Panel requires a supported Web browser, and you have to make sure your system is ready to run Windows PowerShell.
Basic Plus Deployment for Live@edu
-
This option adds a single sign-on solution to the basic deployment scenario.
-
Use the single sign-on software development kit (SSO SDK) to map on-premises accounts to Windows Live IDs and update your existing Web portal to add an e-mail entry point.
-
Students use their on-premises credentials to access Outlook Live and all other Live@edu services.
Automated Directory Deployment for Live@edu
Use Outlook Live Directory Sync (OLSync) to automate account creation and synchronization.
-
This option requires that student account information is present in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) or Active Directory directory service.
-
Students use the Windows Live ID that you create for them to access Outlook Live and all other Live@edu services. You can use the Password Change Notification Service (PCNS) of Microsoft Identity Lifecycle Manager to synchronize Windows Live ID and Active Directory user passwords.
