You can set up e-mail on Windows Mobile 6.5.

How do I set up POP or IMAP e-mail on Windows Mobile 6.5?

  1. Tap Start > Messaging > Setup E-mail.

  2. Enter your e-mail address and password, and then tap Next.

  3. Clear the box Try to get e-mail settings automatically from the Internet, and then tap Next.

  4. Select Internet e-mail for Your e-mail provider, and then tap Next.

  5. Enter your name (for example, Tony Smith) and, optionally, change the Account display name, and then tap Next.

  6. Enter the Incoming mail server. For information about how to find your incoming (POP3 or IMAP4) server name, see the "What else do I need to know?" section below.

  7. Select the Account type (either POP3 or IMAP4), and then tap Next.

  8. Enter your user name (for example, tony@contoso.com), and then tap Next. Your password should already be entered from step 2.

  9. Enter the name of your Outgoing (SMTP) mail server. See below for information about how to find your outgoing (SMTP) server name.

  10. Select the box marked Outgoing server requires authentication and make sure the box marked Use the same user name and password for sending e-mail is selected.

  11. Choose how often you want your mobile phone to check for new messages. If you never want your phone to check for new messages, select Manually.

  12. Tap Finish.

What else do I need to know?

  • Before you set up a POP3 or IMAP4 e-mail program, you need to look up your own POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP server settings.

Watch this video to learn how to find your server settings for your POP or IMAP e-mail program.

To find your server settings, sign in to your e-mail account using Outlook Web App. After you sign in, click Options > See All Options > Account > My Account > Settings for POP, IMAP, and SMTP access. The POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP server name and other settings you may need to enter are listed on the Protocol Settings page under POP setting or IMAP setting, and SMTP setting.

Note   If you see Not available next to POP setting, IMAP setting, and SMTP setting, your account may not be set up to use POP or IMAP e-mail programs. For more information, contact the person who manages your e-mail account.

  • If your e-mail account is the type that requires registration, you must register it the first time you sign in to Outlook Web App. Connecting to your e-mail account through a mobile phone will fail if you haven't registered your account through Outlook Web App. After you sign in to your account, sign out. Then try to connect using your mobile phone. For more information about how to sign in to your account using Outlook Web App, see How to Sign In to Outlook Web App. If you have trouble signing in, see FAQs: Sign-in and Password Issues or contact the person who manages your e-mail account.

  • If you can’t send messages from your Windows Mobile phone using POP3 or IMAP4, but you can receive messages, there might be a problem with the e-mail setup on your Windows Mobile phone. This problem can be corrected by downloading and installing the Windows Mobile 6.1 Hotfix for Sending POP and IMAP E-mail. To download the hotfix, click the following link.
