You can set up e-mail on a wide variety of Internet-capable mobile phones. If you know your mobile phone’s operating system, see Mobile Phone Setup Reference for links to specific instructions for each mobile phone operating system.
In your mobile phone's messaging program, you can set up your e-mail with the following settings:
- E-mail address: This is your full e-mail address (for example, email@example.com).
- User name: Your user name is your full e-mail address (for example, firstname.lastname@example.org).
- Password: This is the password for your e-mail account.
- Incoming mail server: Enter the POP3 or IMAP server name. For information about how to find your incoming (POP3 or IMAP4) server name, see How do I find the server settings? later in this topic.
- Outgoing mail server: For information about how to find your outgoing (SMTP) server name, see How do I find the server settings? later in this topic.
- Advanced Settings: If your mobile phone's messaging program allows you to set up advanced settings, make sure your Outgoing server requires authentication option is selected and make sure to choose Use the same user name and password for sending e-mail.
Before you set up a POP3 or IMAP4 e-mail program, you need to look up your own POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP server settings.

To find your server settings, sign in to your e-mail account using Outlook Web App. After you sign in, click Options > See All Options > Account > My Account > Settings for POP, IMAP, and SMTP access. The POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP server name and other settings you may need to enter are listed on the Protocol Settings page under POP setting or IMAP setting, and SMTP setting.
|If you see Not available next to POP setting, IMAP setting, and SMTP setting, your account may not be set up to use POP or IMAP e-mail programs. For more information, contact the person who manages your e-mail account.|
What else do I need to know?
Setting up an e-mail account on your mobile phone requires that you have a data plan with your mobile phone carrier.
If your e-mail account is the type that requires registration, you must register it the first time you sign in to Outlook Web App. Connecting to your e-mail account through a mobile phone will fail if you haven't registered your account through Outlook Web App. After you sign in to your account, sign out. Then try to connect using your mobile phone. If you can’t send messages from your Windows Mobile phone using POP3 or IMAP4, but you can receive messages, there might be a problem with the e-mail setup on your Windows Mobile phone. This problem can be corrected by downloading and installing the Windows Mobile 6.1 Hotfix for Sending POP and IMAP E-mail. To download the hotfix, click the following link.
