You can connect Microsoft Entourage for Mac OS X to your e-mail account using POP3 or IMAP4 connectivity. This procedure applies to Entourage 2004 and Entourage 2008.
If you're running Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition, you don't use the steps in this topic to connect to your account. Entourage 2008 Web Services Edition is a free update to Entourage 2008. For more information see the "What if I want to know more?" section at the end of this topic.

These instructions include the correct server names for e-mail accounts that are accessed online using the Outlook.com Web site. If you use a different address to access your e-mail on the Web, such as your organization’s Web address, you need to obtain the correct server names from someone who manages your e-mail account before you follow the steps below.
|
How do I set up Entourage for access to my e-mail account?
-
In Entourage for Mac, on the Tools menu, click Accounts > New.
-
In the New Account window, under Add new mail account, select IMAP or POP from the drop-down menu next to Account type, and then click OK. You might want to use IMAP because it supports more features.
-
On the Edit Account page, do the following:
Under Account name, type a name for this account.
Under Personal Information:
-
Next to Name, enter the name you want people to see when you send them e-mail.
-
Next to E-mail address, enter your full e-mail address, for example, tony@contoso.com.
Under Receiving mail:
-
Next to Account ID, enter your full e-mail address.
-
If you're using IMAP4, next to IMAP server enter the IMAP4 server name. If you're using POP3, under POP server, enter the POP3 server name. If you access your e-mail account online using the outlook.com Web site, you can find the POP or IMAP server settings for your e-mail account by signing in to Outlook Web App at the following address: http://outlook.com. After you sign in successfully, click the drop-down arrow next to the Help question mark, and then click About. The POP or IMAP server name you need to enter is listed on the About page under External POP setting or External IMAP setting.
For example, if you're using POP and the About page shows the following:
External POP setting:
Server name: pod51005.outlook.com
Port: 995
Encryption method: SSL
your POP server name is pod51005.outlook.com.
If you're using IMAP and the About page shows the following:
External IMAP setting:
Server name: pod51005.outlook.com
Port: 993
Encryption method: SSL
the server name is pod51005.outlook.com.
Note: |
|---|
|
Write down the values for the POP or IMAP port and encryption method. You'll need to set or verify those settings later in this procedure.
|
-
Next to Password, enter your password. If you want to save your password, you can select the check box next to Save password in my Mac OS keychain.
-
Click Click here for advanced receiving options.
-
In the pop-up window that appears, select the check box next to This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL), and then click the close button in the upper-left corner of the pop-up window.
Under Sending mail:
-
Next to SMTP server, enter the SMTP server name. If you access your e-mail account online using the outlook.com Web site, you can find the SMTP server name by signing in to your e-mail account at the following address: http://outlook.com. After you sign in successfully, click the drop-down arrow next to the Help question mark, and then click About. The SMTP server name you need to enter is listed on the About page under External SMTP setting. For example, if the About page shows the following:
External SMTP setting:
Server name: pod51005.outlook.com
Port: 587
Encryption method: TLS
your SMTP server name is pod51005.outlook.com.
Note: |
|---|
|
Write down the values for the SMTP port and encryption method. You'll need to set or verify those settings later in this procedure.
|
-
Click Click here for advanced sending options. In the pop-up window that appears, do the following:
Select the check box next to SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL).
Select the check box next to SMTP server requires authentication.
Select the Use same settings as receiving mail server option, and then click the close button in the upper-left corner of the pop-up window.
-
On the Options page, select the options you want. If you're using IMAP4, you can also select options on the Advanced page.
Caution: |
|---|
|
If you're using POP3, on the Options page, under Server options, select Leave a copy of each message on the server if you want to keep a copy of your messages on the server. If you don't do this, all messages will be removed from the server and stored locally on your computer.
|
-
In the Edit Account window, click OK to save your settings.
-
Close the Accounts dialog box.
What else do I need to know?
-
If you don't know whether to use POP3 or IMAP4, consider using IMAP4 because it supports more features.
-
If you access your e-mail account online using the outlook.com Web site, you'll need the Windows Live ID that your administrator gave you and your password. The Windows Live ID account is also your primary e-mail address and includes the name of the domain, for example, tony@contoso.com.
