You can connect Microsoft Entourage for Mac OS X to your e-mail account using POP3 or IMAP4 connectivity. This procedure applies to Entourage 2004 and Entourage 2008.
If you're running Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition, you don't use the steps in this topic to connect to your account. Entourage 2008 Web Services Edition is a free update to Entourage 2008. For more information see the "What if I want to know more?" section at the end of this topic.
How do I set up Entourage for access to my e-mail account?

In Entourage for Mac, on the Tools menu, click Accounts > New.

In the New Account window, under Add new mail account, select IMAP or POP from the drop-down menu next to Account type, and then click OK. You might want to use IMAP because it supports more features.

On the Edit Account page, do the following:
Under Account name, type a name for this account.
Under Personal Information:-
Next to Name, enter the name you want people to see when you send them e-mail.

Next to E-mail address, enter your full e-mail address, for example, tony@contoso.com.

Next to Account ID, enter your full e-mail address.

If you're using IMAP4, next to IMAP server enter the IMAP4 server name. If you're using POP3, under POP server, enter the POP3 server name. For information about how to find your incoming (POP3 or IMAP4) server name, see the "What else do I need to know?" section below.

Next to Password, enter your password. If you want to save your password, you can select the check box next to Save password in my Mac OS keychain.

Click Click here for advanced receiving options.

In the pop-up window that appears, select the check box next to This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL), and then click the close button in the upper-left corner of the pop-up window.

Next to SMTP server, enter the SMTP server name. For information about how to find your outgoing (SMTP) server name, see "What else do I need to know?" below.

Click Click here for advanced sending options. In the pop-up window that appears, do the following:
Select the check box next to SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL).
Select the check box next to SMTP server requires authentication.
Select the Use same settings as receiving mail server option, and then click the close button in the upper-left corner of the pop-up window.

Next to Name, enter the name you want people to see when you send them e-mail.

On the Options page, select the options you want. If you're using IMAP4, you can also select options on the Advanced page.
Caution: If you're using POP3, on the Options page, under Server options, select Leave a copy of each message on the server if you want to keep a copy of your messages on the server. If you don't do this, all messages will be removed from the server and stored locally on your computer. -
In the Edit Account window, click OK to save your settings.

Close the Accounts dialog box.

Before you set up a POP3 or IMAP4 e-mail program, you need to look up your own POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP server settings. Watch this video to learn how to find your server settings for your POP or IMAP e-mail program.To find your server settings, sign in to your e-mail account using Outlook Web App. After you sign in, click the drop-down arrow next to the Help question mark, and then click About. The POP3 or IMAP4 server name and other settings you may need to enter are listed on the About page under External POP setting or External IMAP setting. The SMTP server name and other settings are listed under External SMTP setting.

Important: The following settings are just examples. You must look up your own server settings. -
If you're using POP and the About page shows the following:
External POP setting:
Server name: pod51000.outlook.com
Port: 995
Encryption method: SSL
your POP3 server name should be set to pod51000.outlook.com. -
If you're using IMAP and the About page shows the following:
External IMAP setting:
Server name: pod51000.outlook.com
Port: 993
Encryption method: SSL
your server name should be set to pod51000.outlook.com. -
To find your SMTP server setting, if the About page shows the following:
External SMTP setting:
Server name: pod51000.outlook.com
Port: 587
Encryption method: TLS
your SMTP server name should be set to pod51000.outlook.com.
Note: Write down the server settings in case you need them for future reference.

If you're using POP and the About page shows the following:

If you don't know whether to use POP3 or IMAP4, consider using IMAP4 because it supports more features.

If you access your e-mail account online using the outlook.com Web site, you'll need the Windows Live ID that your administrator gave you and your password. The Windows Live ID account is also your primary e-mail address and includes the name of the domain, for example, tony@contoso.com.
