When a user forgets their password and can't recover it from login.live.com, or reports a blocked or locked account, you can reset the password for them. Here's how:

  1. In the Exchange Control Panel, select Manage My Organisation > Users & Groups > Mailboxes.
  2. In the Mailboxes list, select the mailbox. For a large list of mailboxes, use the Search mailboxes field and type all or part of a display name.
  3. Click Reset Password, and enter the following information:
    • Password   It's a good idea to use strong passwords that are at least eight characters long and combine uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. For more information, see Password Requirements.
    • Confirm password   Retype the password to verify that you typed it correctly.
    • Require password change on next logon   If a student reports that their account is blocked or locked, you must select this tick box to unblock their account. It's always a good idea to select this option, because it forces the user to change their password right away. If you don't select this option, the user may never change it.
  4. When you've finished, click Save.

Next steps   Make sure your Live@edu users know how to change their own password. Here's how: Change Your Account Password
