The steps you use to set up your mobile phone will vary based on the model of your mobile phone.

What do you want to do?

You can set up your mobile phone to access your email, calendar information, contacts and tasks. If your mobile phone or device supports Exchange ActiveSync (also referred to as Exchange email), POP3 and IMAP4, you can choose which type of account to set up. Exchange ActiveSync is designed to synchronise email, calendar, contact, task and other information. POP3 and IMAP4 accounts are designed to send and receive email messages.

What type of phone do you have?

There are many different mobile phone models, but only a few mobile phone operating systems. The operating system is the software that runs on your phone and lets you do things like view maps, access a to-do list, make calls or play music. The most popular mobile phone operating systems include the following:

  • Android   This is Google’s mobile operating system, sometimes referred to as Droid.

  • Apple (iOS)   This is Apple’s mobile operating system, found on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

  • BlackBerry   This is the Research in Motion (RIM) mobile operating system.

  • Nokia (Symbian)   This is the operating system used on Nokia mobile phones that are not running the Windows Phone operating system.

  • Windows Phone and Windows Mobile   Windows Phone is the latest Microsoft mobile operating system. Windows Mobile (for example, Windows Mobile 6.5), is the previous Microsoft mobile operating system.

The following are general instructions for each major mobile phone operating system. If you don’t know which mobile phone operating system you have, contact your device manufacturer. If your Internet phone isn’t listed below, see Set Up POP or IMAP Email on an Internet-Capable Mobile Phone. For more information, see the Mobile Phone Setup Wizard.
