Set Up POP or IMAP Email on a BlackBerry Curve

You can set up email on a BlackBerry device. If you set up a POP3 or IMAP4 account, you can only synchronise email on your device. If your device is set up for BlackBerry Enterprise Cloud Services, you’ll be able to access and synchronise your email, calendar and contacts. How do I set up POP or IMAP email on a BlackBerry?

From the BlackBerry home screen, click BlackBerry Setup > Set up Internet Email > Add An Email Account.
Type your email address and password, and then click Next.
Your BlackBerry will try to set up your email account automatically. If setup completes successfully, skip to the next step. If your email account can't be configured automatically, do the following:
1. Click I will provide the settings to add this email account.
2. Scroll down and then click Next.
3. Select Internet Service Provider Email (POP/IMAP), and then click Next.
4. Type your full email address for your user name (for example, tony@contoso.com).
5. Scroll down and type the name of your email server. For information about how to find your incoming (POP3 or IMAP4) server name, see How do I find the server settings? later in this topic.
6. Click Next.
7. Enter the name of the outgoing server. For information about how to find your outgoing (SMTP) server name, see How do I find the server settings? later in this topic.
Click OK to complete the setup.

How do I find the server settings?

Before you set up a POP3 or IMAP4 email program, you need to look up your own POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP server settings.

To find your server settings, sign in to your email account using Outlook Web App. After you sign in, click Options > See All Options > Account > My Account > Settings for POP, IMAP and SMTP access. The POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP server name and other settings you may need to enter are listed on the Protocol Settings page under POP setting or IMAP setting and SMTP setting.

Note:
If you see Not available next to POP setting, IMAP setting and SMTP setting, your account may not be set up to use POP or IMAP email programs. For more information, contact the person who manages your email account.

What else do I need to know?

If your email account is the type that requires registration, you must register it the first time you sign in to Outlook Web App. Connecting to your email account through a mobile phone will fail if you haven't registered your account through Outlook Web App. After you sign in to your account, sign out. This procedure sets up a POP or IMAP connection between your device and your account and only allows you to synchronise your email using a wireless connection. BlackBerry Business Cloud Services for Microsoft Office 365 is a future service that is being designed to provide enhanced features for BlackBerry device users with Office 365 accounts. Email administrators may visit BlackBerry Business Cloud Services for Microsoft Office 365 to learn more about this service.
If you’re an Office 365 user and your company is using BlackBerry Business Cloud Services, you can use the service for integrated email, calendaring and contact services with Microsoft Exchange Online. Similarly, if you’re not an Office 365 user but have a mailbox on an Exchange server that’s using BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express, you’ll also be able to use the service for integrated email, calendaring and contacts with Microsoft Exchange Online. When your administrator has set up your BlackBerry device, you can manage the settings on your phone yourself. To manage your BlackBerry smartphone, go to the BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager.
