The steps you use to set up your mobile phone will vary based on the model of your mobile phone.

What do you want to do?

You can set up your mobile phone to access your e-mail, calendar information, contacts, and tasks. If your mobile phone or device supports Exchange ActiveSync (also referred to as Exchange e-mail), POP3, and IMAP4, you can choose which type of account to set up. Exchange ActiveSync is designed to synchronize e-mail, calendar, contact, task, and other information. POP3 and IMAP4 accounts are designed to send and receive email messages.

What type of phone do you have?

There are many different mobile phone models, but only a few mobile phone operating systems. The operating system is the software that runs on your phone and lets you do things like view maps, access a to-do list, make calls or play music. The most popular mobile phone operating systems include the following:

  • iOS This is Apple’s mobile operating system, found on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
  • Windows Phone This is the Microsoft mobile operating system.
  • Android This is Google’s mobile operating system, sometimes referred to as Droid.
  • Symbian OS This is Nokia’s mobile operating system.
  • BlackBerry This is the Research in Motion (RIM) mobile operating system

The following are general instructions for each major mobile phone operating system. If you don’t know what mobile phone operating system you have, see Set Up POP or IMAP Email on an Internet-Capable Mobile Phone. For more information, see the Mobile Phone Setup Wizard.
